As soon as this "normal" visa expires, an extension can be requested for a maximum of combined 6 months.
Such an extension will cost around 10 TND per week (approx. 6 EUR/UKP, 8 USD) and has to be requested and paid with the police.

Tunisia Tourist Visa Extension Procedure

Tunisia Tourist Visa Extension
Tunisia wants to hold on to their tourists for as long as possible. If you want to lengthen your stay and you happen to be in Djerba here’s how.
The visa office is in the main police building about 5 minutes’ walk from the central post office in Houmt Souk. At the gate an officer welcomes visitors who should declare intentions. Tell the kind police officer that you want to visit the ‘bureau des estrangers’ (office for foreigners). Once in the building, you find 2 offices to your left. Go to the 2nd office. Mr. Kamel speaks good English and is a helpful person. He will tell you to prepare the following:
• 2 Passport copies (photo page and entry stamp)
• Name of hotel (or if you rented accommodation, the rental contract)
• 2 passport size photos
• 2 copies of flight tickets out of the country (showing intended departure date)
• Forms to complete (provided by Mr. Kamel)
• 1 ATM receipt.
Once these are provided, revenue stamps are needed of 10 Dinar Tunisian per week. This is when you go on your merry way to enjoy the rest of your holiday waiting for a call to bring your passport for the extension visa.
