Bucas Grande Island

Surigao City is the main transit point in getting to Bucas Grande Island. You can travel by air, by land (Philtranco Bus), or by sea from Manila directly to Surigao City. At the airport or at the bus terminal, you can either ride a tricycle or multi cab to the City’s Pantalan Uno (Port / Pier 1) where you will take another two-hour boat ride to Bucas Grande Island. Bucas Grande Island is popularly known as Socorro so I advise you to ask people using the latter term whenever you look for the motor boat at the port. Alternatively, you can ask the driver of the land transport you are riding to send you to either M/B Angus or M/B LCM at said port.

Whenever you choose Surigao City as your starting point, make sure that you are going to reach the port before 12 noon since the regular trip is scheduled to sail to Bucas Grande Island anytime from 11 am to 12 noon, Mondays through Saturdays. Whenever you happen to reach the city during Sundays, or whenever you are looking for a shortened sea-trip, you can go to Surigao City Bus Station which is only a short walk from the airport. There, you can choose a van, bus or jeepney-ride to the port of Barangay Hayanggabon, Claver, Surigal del Norte where you can hitch for a less than an hour trip to the port of Bucas Grande Island, Socorro, Surigao del Norte. In choosing for this route, make sure that you reach the port of Hayangabon before 11 in the morning because the scheduled daily trip will depart between 10 am to 11 am.

If you happen to choose to visit Bucas Grande Island from the main Siargao Island (FYI: Bucas Grande Island is part of Siargao Islands), you can reach the port of Socorro by a one-hour sea-trip at the port of Dapa, Surigao del Norte. There are two daily trips at the said port: one which will sail to Bucas Grande Island between 7 to 8 am; and another between 2 to 4 pm. Currently, you can travel by air from Cebu City to Siargao five times a week. From the airport, you will still need to take a motorcycle, van or jeepney ride to the port of Dapa so be sure to reach the latter port before the scheduled time of departure.

For travelers whose starting point is at Butuan City, you can take a bus/van ride to Surigao City. From Surigao City Terminal, you will again take a multi cab ride and ask the driver to drop you at Surigao City Public Market where port / pier 1 is only a short walk away. If you however intend to take the Hayanggabon route above, you can ask the bus/van driver (I am referring to the driver of the bus/van from Butuan City) to drop you only at Bad-as Terminal where you can get a ride to the port of Hanyanggabon. Another alternative is to hitch a ride at Butuan City Bus Terminal on a bus heading to Catilan Surigao del Sur and/or Tandag, Surigao del Sur and tell the driver to drop you at the port of Hayanggabon.
