Alert! On May 16, 2011, Caltrans was reporting that Highway 1 was closed "3.2 miles south of Gorda 。 due to a land slide" and that "motorists are advised to use an alternate route." This closure prevents access to most of the Big Sur region via Highway 1 from the south. Call 800.427.7623 or check the Caltrans Web site for current conditions on Highway 1.
