well depends on where you travel and depends on what type of card you have.
if you bring some cards from China, then maybe not acceptable here. Any UK debit card is acceptable.
You d better take some cash always. Street Suveniurs, bus tickets, taxies and some gate tickets may not be able to use card to pay.
If you have a UK card you can withdraw cash in caspoints or ask for cashbacks in large shops, such as Tesco and M&S
