大家都知道在美国旅游最好是能够租车自驾，而自驾时往往不能预先知道某日将住在
哪里。如果临时一家家地去找旅馆，不仅费时费事，而且还要冒被宰的风险。
即使你手里有一本旅游指南，或者有GPS，上面有各地旅馆的信息，但你又如何知道
某家旅馆当时的合理价格应当是多少呢？
假设你没有能在上路以前就把所有的旅馆信息研究清楚，在路上又没有时间或条件上网
仔细地去调研，这里介绍一个比较low tech的办法：用当地的旅馆减价券（coupon）。
有这家叫做Traveler Discount Guide 的公司，在许多快餐店，高速公路休息
站，游客中心等地方免费奉送叫Coupon Book的小册子，里面有附近几个州（甚
至包括加拿大的几个省）的沿途旅馆信息，其中绝大多数给出了所谓Discount
Price。这个价格一般是该旅馆的最低价，但是并不保证有房。因此根据这个小
册子，还要再打电话去旅馆确认一下是否有该价格的房间available.
这家公司的网站对此有比较详细的解释。这种小册子也可以事先通过该网站订购
（寄到亚洲国家要九刀）。该网站也有可以直接从网上下载的coupon。
比如，你如果去耶鲁大学参观，当天晚上想在纽海文市住下，该Coupon Book中
可以找到当地的万豪酒店（Courtyard Marriott，三星）有可以住四人一间的客

Another tip is that you should always have a few 800 numbers for hotels.com, expedia.com, orbitz.com, Super 8, Motel 6 and maybe some other chains.
Sometimes you can just call them and tell them where you are--you can even just use the zip code by asking anyone around.
Then the customer service repersentative should be able to find the nearest location and price for you.
This works better if you have a credit card and make a reservation on the phone. So your company can keep driving while you call and find the lodging.
If you want to save a few bucks, try to call the hotel/motel and ask about their rack price/walk-in price. Sometimes it could be even cheaper than the price after coupons. Most hotels and motels in US are franchised and operated by the private owner. And the owner and manager (typically owner's family) have the right and stong intention to sell the empty rooms at a very very low price. This only works on the same day you want to stay.
For them, servicing an extra room only costs less than $10 per night but they charge you at least $40--$80.
And of course, if the hotel gives you a higher rate, then tell them you have the coupon book and want to use it.
